On Saturday July 13, 2019 I got to experience Live Comedy at its finest. I’m embarrassed to say that it was my first time attending The Groundlings; Los Angeles’ improvisation & sketch comedy theatre that has been entertaining audiences for over 40 years but it definitely won’t be my last.
I was lucky enough to watch a preview showing of TREASURE HUNTERS, a new show by The Groundlings Main Company. The Main Company is ‘comprised of no more than 30 members at any time. Each of them has completed The Groundlings’ School training program and performed in the Sunday Company before being invited into the Main Company. They also teach the classes in The Groundlings School and collectively act as artistic director for the theatre.‘
The caliber of talent on that stage was crazy. I was laughing so hard throughout the entire show. Treasure Hunters is a combination of sketches & Improve. I don’t want to spoil anything, I want you to experience it for yourself, all I will say is you NEED to get tickets and experience The Groundlings awesomeness. I felt like I was watching SNL. The cool part is so many of the SNL stars started their careers at The Groundlings.
I was able to go backstage and the whole time I was completely in awe of all the history and people that walked through those halls. Comedy LEGENDS! Being an Arts Lover, I have so much appreciation for what these artist do…they are probably all working “regular” jobs and then eating, breathing Comedy at night. I just love that!
The Costume Room was really cool, so many notable sketches on SNL were created at The Groundlings and some of their original costumes still remain. Crazy to think a lot of today’s comedy stars came from 7307 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles..just amazing. That should tell you something…The Groundlings is the place to be.
Besides putting on great entertainment, The Groundlings is more than a theatre its one of the best Sketch Comedy & Improvisations schools out there. Sorry kids or anyone under 18 are not allowed for THIS show due to mature content. But to all my aged-friends lol you need to go check this show out. Get a group of friends, parents hire a babysitter for a few hours, boyfriends this is a perfect date night, and it only cost $18! You know watching a movie especially at the Arclight will charge you the same. BUT at The Groundlings you are getting a LIVE show with audience participation so you get to be part of the show too. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience at one of the most legendary Comedy Theatres/Schools out there. You definitely don’t want to miss it!
